Youth Speech Competition
Categories: Ages 8-12, 13-17 | Boys & Girls
Speech Topic Requirement:
Each contestant is required to write and deliver a speech explaining why they should become the next Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas.
All speeches must include a minimum of 2 scripture verses.
Purpose of the Competition
The purpose of this competition is to encourage our youth to develop confidence, leadership, civic awareness, and strong moral values by expressing their ideas about the future of The Bahamas. Contestants will use their voices to inspire responsible citizenship, leadership, and positive change.
OFFICIAL RULES & GUIDELINES
1. Speech Development
Contestants must clearly understand their topic and organize their ideas so the audience can easily follow their message.
Each speech must include:
- A clear purpose
- A strong introduction
- A well-organized body
- A clear conclusion
Contestants must:
- Know their speech well
- Stay focused on the topic
- Speak clearly and confidently
- Include biblical principles or scripture to support their message
2. Required Speech Content
Each contestant must:
- Explain why they should be chosen as the next Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas
- Share their vision for the future of The Bahamas
- Base their ideas on biblical values and leadership principles
- Present their ideas respectfully
Speeches must remain positive and respectful at all times.
3. Speech Value
The speech should be meaningful, sincere, and inspiring.
Listeners should feel:
- Encouraged
- Inspired
- Hopeful
- Confident in the speaker’s leadership
4. Delivery
Delivery refers to how the speech is presented.
Physical Appearance
Contestants must:
- Dress neatly and appropriately
- Present themselves confidently
Body Language
Contestants should:
- Stand tall and maintain good posture
- Use natural gestures
- Show appropriate facial expressions
Voice
The speaker’s voice should be:
- Clear
- Loud enough to be heard
- Expressive and confident
Manner of Delivery
Contestants should:
- Speak with confidence
- Show interest in their audience
- Demonstrate preparation
5. Language
Contestants should:
- Use respectful and appropriate language
- Speak clearly and correctly
- Avoid offensive or disrespectful words
- Communicate their ideas in a way the audience can understand
6. Time Requirement
Each speech must not exceed 3 minutes
Any contestant whose speech exceeds the required time will be disqualified.
General Expectations for Contestants
All contestants must:
- Practice their speech
- Follow the time requirement
- Show respect for judges and other contestants
- Demonstrate good sportsmanship
- Follow all competition rules
Judging Criteria
Speeches will be evaluated based on the following areas:
Speech Development — 25%
Organization, structure, and clarity of ideas.
Delivery — 30%
Confidence, body language, voice, and overall presentation.
Language — 20%
Clarity, respectfulness, and appropriateness of words.
Effectiveness — 15%
Ability to connect with the audience and communicate the message clearly.
Speech Value — 10%
Meaningfulness, inspiration, and use of biblical principles.
Total — 100%
